There are 13 techniques you should learn before this one. Click here to add this tie as a goal and see them in order.

Notes and Resources:

Steps:

  • Column tie wrists
  • First upper wrap
  • Go under stem, reverse direction, second upper wrap
  • X-style friction lock between upper wraps and stem
  • Upper kannuki (pass behind stem going between)
  • Wrap 360 degrees around stem to lock kannuki
  • Lower wraps (pass behind stem between wraps)
  • Lock lower wraps to stem with double-half-moon friction
  • Lower kannuki
  • Wrap stem to lock lower kannuki, then half hitch somewhere to lock tie

Hi, the half moon doesn't appear to be documented anywhere? Including the whole rest of the internet (as far as Google got me, at least)? Would you mind explaining that somewhere? Thank you!

Yeah, it doesn't make a very useful search term, huh? You can see the half moons tied by Hebari here. That video is of a different style of TK than the one described above, but the part with the half-moons is the same.

Hebari video no longer available. I'm not sure but I guess this video from the TK by De Giotto explains the half moon friction (pointer at 11m42) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTyYSXAj9jo&t=11m42s Btw it would be nice to have placeholders for frictions.

Unfortuantely, the Hebari video and the De Giotti video suggested below are no longer available. You can find an image of a half moon friction (highlighted within the context of a "wrap twice" takate kote) here: https://ropestudy.com/courses/101/lessons/working-with-rope/topic/some-common-knots-frictions/

Why are only the upper wraps tied with reverse tension here? My speculation: Its purpose is to help with the problem of uneven tension between first and second upper wrap in the "wrap twice" Takate Kote. This problem doesn't arise in the lower wraps (because there is no cinch for centering), so reversing tension is just not necessary. Could you comment on that? Thanks! :)

          Yep, that's exactly right.
